JJ's Legacy decorates Bakersfield trees to encourage organ donation


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — JJ's Legacy wrapped blue and green ribbons around trees in Bakersfield to commemorate National Donate Life Month.

"Why not? Why not donate life? Why not be a registered donor?" said Lori Malkin, the founder of JJ's Legacy.

Malkin's son Jeff passed away in 2009 from a head injury.

"He saved five lives through organ donation, and over 50 lives he enhanced through tissue donation," Malkin said.

The group's mission is educating and inspiring people in Kern County to register as organ and tissue donors. Donor families, recipients, and volunteers tied ribbons around trees up and down Truxtun and Chester Avenues on Monday. Continue reading
