Laredo Medical Center honors those who gave the gift of life

LAREDO MORNING TIMES

Leticia Lopez holds up a photo of her son, who was an organ donor upon his death. Lopez gave a tearful testimonial on how important it was for her to keep her son’s memory alive through those who benefited from the gift of life.
Laredo Medical Center, together with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance and the San Antonio Eye Bank, remembered Thursday those who have given the gift of life and recognized their family members for their courageous decision of organ donation.

The annual Rose Garden ceremony takes place each year in the Rose Garden located behind the LMC Chapel.

During the ceremony, special dedications were read on behalf of family members who were in attendance remembering their lost loved ones. Brendan Townsend, music conductor of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, also performed Bach, Suite #1, Prelude, on his cello, as a special gift to family members.

On display at the ceremony was a beautiful donor family quilt — a quilt that honors the memory of South and Central Texans who have given the gift of life. Each quilt square was created by donor family members who honor their loved ones with a special square.
