Organ donors, recipients carry torch through Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio - In 2013 Brock and Sara Dietrich carried heartache.

Their 17-year-old daughter, Sydnee, died in a car crash. She was texting and driving while not wearing her seat belt, according to her father.

In 2016, that heartache has turned to a flame of passion. A gift now passed on to Ted Staton, whose health, just two years ago, was fading fast.

“30 years of that disease took its toll on several of my organs,” he said.

Juvenile diabetes had flat lined his kidneys. Dialysis barely got him through until 2013 when an unexpected kidney pancreas came from an unexpected donor: Sydnee Dietrich.

Paths in life lead to many crossroads. The crossroads at Marconi Boulevard and Long Street in downtown Columbus, Friday, led to a warm, heartfelt hug between the Dietrichs and Staton. Continue reading
