Over 1,000 Iowans ‘Fight for Air’ in Downtown Skyline Climb

DES MOINES, Iowa - Tom Muselman is fighting for air.

Not literally - he received a double lung transplant seven years ago from the University of Iowa. Muselman says he was the 27th recipient, on the 27th day of June in that year. The number '27' is now his lucky one, and is the inspiration behind his group, "Team 27," in the American Lung Association's Fight for Air Climb.

"Before my transplant, I couldn't walk up my 12 stairs to my bedroom without oxygen, and man - you know, ever since then, I've been trying to do everything I can," he said. "We started our team, Team 27, seven years ago with three people. We went to 15, we went to 36, 127 - we're 95 [people strong] this year."

Muselman's crew of 95 is the largest team in today's climb. They're also raising more money than anyone else nationwide, with expectations to raise about $40,000 this year alone. Continue reading
