Residents run with heart; 5K celebrates organ donation

OMAHA, Neb. - Hundreds of people gathered in Aksarben Saturday morning to spread the word on how you can be a hero.

About 450 Nebraskans are waiting for an organ transplant, according to the Donate Life Nebraska website.

The Donate Life Nebraska 5K and Heroes walk started with a family a teenager named Macy Stevens, 17, who likely wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her heart donor seven years ago.

"It just made us appreciate every day more and more and just understand that there are a lot of families out there like us," Jordan Stevens, the race director and Macy's father.

Stevens aims to bring those families together every year to celebrate and raise awareness about organ donations. Continue reading
