UNIONTOWN, Pa. - You may have heard of U.S. women's soccer player Meghan Klingenberg. The World Cup winner from Pittsburgh is teaming up with Allegheny Health Network to encourage organ donation.
You probably have not heard of Gene Wolbert. But if you live in Fayette or Greene counties, chances are you will meet him, and he may convince you to save lives.
Every day, when people come to the local PennDOT center for a new driver's license, Wolbert is there making his pitch to sign them up as organ donors.
"We have over 122,000 right now waiting for a transplant, and 22 a day are dying on the waiting list," he said.
"I went to get my license renewed and I forgot to tell them that I was a donor before, and they didn't put it on my card, so when I came back out, I talked to Gene and I signed up again," Janet McCune said.
