Community Learns About Organ, Tissue Donation at Annual Mile Bluff Event

Every 10 minutes, another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list. There are over 120,000 individuals in the United States waiting to receive a transplant. It is also estimated that one out of 20 people will need a tissue transplant (bone, skin, heart valve, vein, cartilage, tendon, etc.) in his or her lifetime. By registering to become an organ and tissue donor, you have the opportunity to make an impact on these staggering statistics.

an effort to raise awareness about the importance of becoming a donor, Mile Bluff Medical Center hosted an educational organ and tissue donation fair on April 29.

Representatives from University of Wisconsin Organ Procurement Organization, Regeneration Technologies (RTI) Donor Services, Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin, and Mile Bluff’s Organ and Tissue Procurement Team were available to educate and answer questions regarding organ and tissue donation.
