Forres man's thanks for his lifesaving gift


Former RAF Wing Commander Tony Galloway, 62, featured in the ‘Gazette’ back in 2014, raising awareness about organ donation. He had been on dialysis three times a week for several years at that point and was desperately in need of a kidney transplant.

Little did he know when the phone rang shortly before 7am one morning last November that he was in for an early Christmas present, that would be hard to top.

“I was about to rant over the phone about not being interested in PPI/double glazing/ getting a large cash win via Nigeria etc or whatever else it was,” he said. “But a calm voice confirmed my name and said there was a kidney awaiting for me at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.”

Tony said that he was not excited by the prospect of having to get in the car and drive to Edinburgh (where all Scottish transplants are carried out), because he had a transplant call in August, which then had to be called-off after the kidney turned out to be cancerous. Continue reading
