Greene County woman pines for 'normal life,' new lungs

Morgan, 22, of Spraggs, Greene County was born with cystic fibrosis and is awaiting a double lung transplant to live. “This is the life God chose for me. He wouldn’t give me anything I can’t handle,” Morgan says. “. But I just want to be an everyday person. I want a normal life.”

Every day people ask:

How are you, Morgan?

And every day, she hides the truth:

I'm OK.

On this day, however, as Morgan Yoney sits surrounded by family in her room at UPMC Presbyterian, she is pressed for an honest answer.

How are you really doing, Morgan?

She looks down at her swollen ankles while considering her answer. She shivers, then raises her hand to stifle a painful, rattling cough. She adjusts the tube in her neck.

“Tired, I guess,” says Morgan, 22, of Spraggs, Greene County. “I'm always tired. As I decline, I get used to it. I say, ‘Oh, I'm OK,' because I've dealt with it so long. I mean, I don't know any other way. I was born with cystic fibrosis. It's normal to me.”
