Student posters designed to save lives


MONTPELIER, Vt. -There's a renewed drive to get Vermonters registered as organ donors with artwork designed to save lives.

Saving as many as eight lives, and benefiting another 50 may be the final act of kindness for an organ donor whose life is cut short. Monday, state officials recognized a handful of high-schoolers for painting hope into tragedy's grim picture.

"The heart in the ground symbolizes passing away, and the tree is supposed to be a symbol of life, and it's growing from the heart," said
Maya Boyers, describing her artwork.

The Essex High School Sophomore took home the top prize in the state's first ever Donate Life poster contest -- encouraging Vermonters to join the state's organ donor registry.
