Amazing kidney swap surgery saves four lives

Jennifer Jordan’s only kidney was dying when the generosity of a stranger changed her life.

After facing the prospect of dialysis to stay alive, the 61-year-old food writer received a precious donor kidney in an extraordinary medical feat that required meticulous planning and clockwork execution.

A few weeks ago, eight Australians had surgery — four of them giving up a healthy kidney that by the end of the same day would be hard at work in the other four.

One donor was The West Australian’s wine writer Ray Jordan, who put his hand up to donate a kidney to someone he did not know in return for a life-changing kidney for his wife.
