Daughter of man given life-saving transplant thanks donor for "gift of life"

The daughter of a man who was given a life-saving kidney transplant paid an emotional tribute to the organ donor for “the gift of life”.

Steve Deakin MBE - the manager of the British Transplant Games Royal Liverpool team - waited six years before a donor was found for his third kidney transplant.

The Warrington 55-year-old, who is dad to Nicola, 30, Michelle, 25, and Ellis, 12, will lead the Liverpool team when they compete in the British Transplant Games in the city this summer.

In a post on Facebook, his daughter Nicola said: “Signing up to give the gift of life is the most selfless act anyone could ever do, for the donor’s family it must be the hardest decision they will ever make at the most traumatic, devastating and emotional time of their lives. Continue reading
