Doctors back Daily Mirror campaign calling for opt-out organ donation across UK

Doctors are to call for opt-out organ donation across the UK.

The system – meaning all adults are deemed to consent unless they say otherwise – was launched in Wales last December in a bid to drive up the number of donors .

Surgeons, consultants and GPs from across the UK will this week demand that England, Scotland and Northern Ireland follow suit to save more lives.

The development is a huge milestone in the Daily Mirror’s Change the Law for Life campaign.

We have been calling for this simple change that could help save thousands.

We revealed last year how baby Teddy Houlston became Britain’s youngest organ donor, donating his organs after dying aged just 100 minutes.

More than 100,000 extra people signed the official organ donor register following our story.

Emma and Drew Lee were so inspired by our story, they donated the organs of their baby Hope, who died aged just 74 minutes. Her twin Josh survived. Continue reading
