Family lucky to still have mum after near-death experience

POSING for pictures with her newborn son, Jacob, and two young daughters, 29-year-old Gold Coast mum Samantha Martin had no idea her body was about to give out.

Just a week after Jacob was born Ms Martin collapsed at a photo shoot. Her next clear memory was waking up in hospital and being told her life had been saved by a double lung transplant.

Now recovering in the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, Ms Martin is still coming to terms with the sickness that hit without warning – and the gift of organ donation.
