Radio host lauded for work to promote organ donation

Steele to receive National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence

Nearly 19 years ago, Harvey Steele, dying from liver failure and waiting at the Cleveland Clinic for a transplant, received a second chance at life.

Today the co-host of Toledo’s top morning radio show, WKKO-FM, 99.9’s Shores and Steele, receives the National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence in Richmond, Va., for his efforts in promoting the cause of organ donation.

“I know that I am lucky to have a bully pulpit working on K-100, and I just started to run with it,” Mr. Steele said.

The United Network for Organ Sharing, or UNOS, a private, nonprofit organization based in Richmond that manages the nation’s organ transplant system under contract with the federal government, established The National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence to honor “‘unsung heroes’ who have gone above and beyond in promoting organ donation in their community.” Continue reading
