Robstown organ donor honored at flag raising ceremony

Robstown Mayor Mandy Barrera held a flag raising ceremony on Wednesday, May 18 to honor Marky Olguin, whose family made the life-saving decision to donate his organs.

Barrera was joined by Toni Portwood, manager of family services at Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA), Pastor Adan Rubio of Templo Maranatha Church in Robstown and dozens of members of the community. Rubio led the guests in prayer and offered words of comfort as Dora Luna and Mark Olguin, Marky’s parents, raised a Donate Life flag in their son’s honor.

The flag will fly over the city of Robstown until Monday, May 23, when it will be lowered and presented in a shadowbox to the family by Barrera and Patty Thurgood, hospital services associate from STA. Continue reading
