Do you remember your greatest Christmas gift?
Edensor Park resident Sara Valenzuela’s greatest Christmas present was her life.
At age 15, Ms Valenzuela was diagnosed with kidney disease. By 38, her kidneys had completely shut down.
Hooked up to a dialysis machine for twelve hours a day, she endured four years of the machine patiently cleaning her blood of waste.
She couldn’t go to the bathroom, travel, work or enjoy the most simple pleasures of life.
“Being in that machine, you don’t feel human,” she said.
Facing years of dialysis, or death if she couldn’t find a kidney donor, her greatest motivation to fight for survival was her son.
“That was my reason that I wanted to live and fight for my life … I wanted to see him grown up, I wanted to see his achievements, I want to see him one day get married and have a family of his own,” she said. Continue reading
