One year later: Family celebrates drowning victim's gift of life

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's been one year since a local man received a life-saving organ transplant.

WLKY covered the family’s celebration, but it was bittersweet.

The donor was a young girl who died after a drowning accident and turned out to be a family member of the recipient.

One year later, at the new T&B Classic Cuts barbershop, they're preparing to celebrate saving a life.

A year ago, Deron Polk didn't know how much life was left in him as his kidneys and pancreas were failing. He needed both organs.

Polk had just come home from church on July 19, 2015 when got the call. The next day he had the surgery.

Just days before, Janyia Robinson, 12, known to her family as "Nu Nu" had passed away after an accidental drowning in her family's backyard pool. Continue reading
