SEVASTOPOL- The Sevastopol School District is hosting a celebration of life for Matthew West Sunday.

Matthew died from Streptococcus pneumoniae, a strain of meningitis, in June. His parents, Aimee and Shawn West, made the heartbreaking decision to donate his organs. His heart went to a recipient in Indiana, the left kidney and pancreas went to a Wisconsin patient who had been on the transplant waiting list since September of 2012, and his right kidney was received by a patient in Illinois who had been on the waiting list since April 2016.

The celebration of life is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Sevastopol Town Park, 4528 Wisconsin 57, Sturgeon Bay. The district plans to provide hamburgers and brats. The event is open to the public and attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass. Water will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own beverages. Continue reading
