Texas girl thriving with Kentucky heart

HOUSTON, Texas – The gift of a donor heart from Kentucky has given Chistine Nunez eight more years with her daughter Ciera Nunez that may have been possible.

At just 4-months-old, Ciera Nunez of Houston, was placed on a heart donor list, with her tiny heart failing.

Ciera was born March 17, 2008 with dilated cardiomyopathy and was surviving on a Berlin Heart in Texas Children's Hospital after cardiac arrest in June 2008.

In Kentucky, 3-month-old Kaylee Buchanan of Ewing, was on life support and would later become the link for Ciera to continue life.

“July 24 will be the 8-year-anniversary with (Ciera’s new) heart,” Nunez said on Monday. “The heart has been a blessing, and Ciera is accepting it so well. No rejections.” Continue reading
