16, 17-year-olds in NY can register as organ donors


ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that allows 16- and 17-year-olds in the state to register as organ donors.

The law also gives parents and guardians the opportunity to change the teens' status if they die before their 18th birthday.

The governor says the bill will increase donation rates. New York has one of the lowest organ donation rates, but is near the top of the list for patients waiting for a transplant. Continue reading
