Braintree Bowmen ace Steve strikes gold at the Transplant Games

GOLD: Steve Fry won two medals at the British Transplant Games.

BRAINTREE Bowmen member Steve Fry struck gold in two different sports at the Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

Steve Fry, who overcame serious illness and had a kidney transplant four years ago, represented Addenbrookes Hospital at the prestigious event in Liverpool.

And he returned home after winning gold medals in both archery and volleyball.

"I'm delighted with my performance, all thanks due to my live donor and the support of my family,” said Fry, who lives in Sudbury.

Over 900 participants competed at the Games.

Lynne Holt, from the charity Transplant Sport (TSUK), which organises the event, said: "The annual British Transplant Games showcase the benefits of transplantation, which would not have been possible without donor families' decision to choose organ donation during a very difficult and tragic time.
