SACRAMENTO - When he was in high school, Alfonso García had big dreams of going to college and pursuing a boxing career. But, the Bay Area native never thought those dreams would be put on hold when he suddenly became ill.
“I was a normal kid when all of a sudden I got extremely sick and was rushed to the hospital. It happened all so very fast. When I arrived they gave me the worst news of my life. They told me I only had 48 hours to live,” said García.
The doctors at the UCSF Medical Center told García his liver had failed and his chances of survival were slim to none.
“I can’t explain in words how devastating the news was...and to see my parents trying to understand what was happening. It was painful, sad and unexpected,” said García as he choked back tears. Continue reading
