Firefighter recovering after double lung transplant surgery


RALSTON, Neb. (WOWT) -- It's been a long wait for Ralston, Nebraska Firefighter Mike Bramhall, but Monday he received a double lung transplant.

Bramhall's surgeon told family the surgery went well and he's, "happy with the lungs and how they're doing so far." He's now resting in the ICU.

Ralston Firefighter Mike Bramhall was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at four months old. The reality that one day his lungs wouldn't be able to keep up with the disease is something he's always known would happen. The Ralston community has rallied around him.

"To know that that many people are behind you, supporting you is a pretty awesome feeling,” Bramhall said in a June interview.
