Hervey Bay father's long wait for new liver finally over

AS Hervey Bay man John Weiland's body attacked itself from the inside, he did not know how much time he had left with his wife and two beautiful children.

About two years ago, an auto-immune disease started to destroy John's Mr Weiland's liver, meaning his only chance for survival was a new one.

He and his wife Monique moved to Brisbane and waited for his life-saving surgery.

In that time, his daughter Addyson and son Jett were born.

After a year and a half of waiting, a viable liver finally became available in June.

"It was really exciting of course, but it's a mix of emotions because you know that there's tragedy that goes with everything like this," John Mr Weiland said.

"You're kind of immediately mourning but at the same time feeling incredibly lucky, and I was so in shock," he said. Continue reading
