Organ Bank Highlights RMV’s Role In Donor Registration

Representatives from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and the regional organ bank were in North Adams Tuesday to celebrate the RMV’s role in signing up donors.

According to the New England Organ Bank, 99 percent of Massachusetts residents who register to be organ and tissue donors do so through the state RMV. Through the donations, 719 lives were saved in New England last year including Glen Wiley’s.

“On November 14, 2015 I received a liver that saved my life and changed my life,” Wiley said. “And if it wasn’t for generosity of someone checking that box to say ‘Yes, I will be an organ donor’ I probably wouldn’t be standing here talking with you now.”
