Racing for a Cause: Organ donation a driving force for Gase

MANSFIELD, Ohio — Like the rest of the racing community, NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Joey Gase was shaken by the news of Bryan Clauson’s death.

When Gase learned Clauson was an organ donor, the driver of the Jimmy Means Racing No. 52 Chevrolet knew he had to honor Clauson’s memory this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Clauson died Sunday from injuries sustained in a crash in the United States Auto Club (USAC) Belleville Midget Nationals in Belleville, Kansas on Saturday. Clauson, regarded as the nation’s top short-track dirt-car racer, was 27.

The Clauson family announced Wednesday on the Bryan Clauson Racing Facebook page that Clauson was an organ donor. Continue reading
