200th heart transplant performed at U of R

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- It’s a major milestone at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The hospital is marking its 200th heart transplant.

The transplant program began in 2001. Now 15 years later, a 48-year-old father of two, has become the 200th person to receive a heart transplant at Strong Memorial Hospital.

For Stephen Waite, Jr. it's a feeling like no other.

"I feel like a new man,” said Waite.

Just a few weeks out from his transplant he's preparing to go home.

"I got a second chance at life and I want to thank all these wonderful people for helping me out,” said Waite. Continue reading
