Baby Mia’s liver transplant possible due to organ donation

WITH her pink chubby cheeks, sparkling blue eyes and gorgeous smile, Mia Evans is the very picture of a happy and healthy eight-month-old.

Yet just a few months ago, doctors gave baby Mia two weeks to live if she did not ­receive a liver transplant.

Mia was born with biliary atresia, a rare disease of the liver that destroys the bile ducts. When she was five months old, she was flown from her home in Perth to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and listed for an urgent transplant.

Her parent’s Renee and Barry went public with their appeal for people to register as organ donors. Continue reading
