Father was 'days' from dying until he had a vital heart transplant

Two and a half years ago Tewkesbury man Richard Tyler was just days away from losing his life.

He was lying in a hospital bed suffering from severe heart failure as the search was on for an organ donor which would save his life.

After an anxious wait of 20 days a donor was found, and after six hours' surgery he was on the mend after a successful heart transplant.

Now he's encouraging everyone to sign up for the organ donor's register after the operation allowed him to continue watching his two children, now aged 14 and 12, grow up and be a husband to his wife Jayne.

He said: "There's no way you can say how grateful you are to have a second chance of life. Someone has passed away, but that person gave me the opportunity to survive.

"For the donor's family I hope it gives them some peace of mind that the tragic death has saved someone else. I can't thank the family enough and I know my family are more than grateful. Continue reading
