Great Plains Health to host organ donation open house

NORTH PLATTE TELEGRAPH | Kamie Stephan

According to Donate Life Nebraska, a single organ donor can save up to 50 people. On Tuesday, Nebraska Organ Recovery will “Celebrate the Gift” of organ donors at Great Plains Health.

The open house in North Platte is one of five taking place across the state this month. The annual celebration is a way for the families of donors, recipients, medical professionals, caregivers and anyone else touched by organ donation to come together.

“The holiday season can be such a difficult time for families who have lost a loved one,” said Heather Hamilton, family support manager at Nebraska Organ Recovery. “We want to honor the gifts these donors have given, and make sure their family and friends know that they are not alone in their grief.”

The event will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Great Plains Health; refreshments will be served. Guests will also have the opportunity to decorate an ornament to be placed on a special donor remembrance tree. Continue reading
