Man who recieved mom's kidney receives another from wife 20 years later

SAN ANTONIO-- They walked down the aisle together and share a 3-year-old daughter. Wednesday morning the Hernandez' crossed a new hurdle together. Both underwent surgery. Jessica Hernandez donated her kidney to her husband Aldo.

"We gave each other a kiss," said Aldo as he looked across the hospital room at his wife. "And said we love each other."

"It's familiar ground," said Sylvia Hernandez, Aldo's mother. That's because she is back by her son’s side, 20 years after she also donated her kidney to him when he was 14 years old.

"Twenty years ago when he was in need I brought him here," said Hernandez. "This is just one thing I had to do as a mother. I am very proud of my daughter-in-law Jessica."

When his kidney expired, his family was full of nerves. But they said they can relax knowing they are in good hands. Dr. Frances Wright returned to perform Aldo’s transplant surgery, again. He did the first one here at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital. Continue reading
