Open house honors organ, tissue donors

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. CHI Health St. Francis hosted an open house on Monday to remember those who have given the gift of life by being an organ or tissue donor.

“It was very sudden,” said Nancy Chavez of her late husband. “He had a brain aneurysm and him being an organ donor was what helped us get through. He said our prayers weren't answered, but a lot of other people's prayers were answered.”

“We're honoring the biggest gift that anyone can give and that's organ and tissue donation and really remembering their families who are missing their loved ones this time of year, too,” said Kara Cordell, the marketing director for Nebraska Organ Recovery.
