Teen’s gift of organ donation to raise national awareness in Rose Parade

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An honor student at Sacred Heart, Jerrell Fletcher played three sports and was on the National Honor Society.

“In this day and age if kids were being bullied he would be the one who stuck up for them,” said Carolyn Fletcher, Jerrell’s Mother.

It’s been 18 years since Jerrell was killed in a car accident.

His organs were donated to save others.

“The most comforting thing of it all, six months after he passed away is when I received the first letter from his heart recipient,” said Fletcher.

Gone far too early, Jerrell has been helping others “live” ever since.

His heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas allowing five other people to survive.

The recipient of Jerrell’s heart now has two children.

“It was just a wonderful thing to my hand on his chest and feel my son’s heart beat,” said Fletcher. Continue reading
