Donor Month celebration at Sierra View Medical Center

National Donate Life Month is celebrated across the country throughout the month of April to encourage people to register as organ donors. With over 100,000 people currently waiting for an organ and someone being added to the transplant list every 10 minutes, the need for organ donors is growing.

To raise awareness for this need and celebrate those who have chosen to save lives by registering as an organ donor, Sierra View Medical Center is hosting a flag raising ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. in front of the hospital’s main lobby.

This event will designate Sierra View as a hospital in partnership with Donor Network West and the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign sponsored by the Division of Transplantation, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“This campaign brings together National Partners, regional and local organ, eye, and tissue donation organizations, and their hospital partners to educate hospital communities on the importance of signing up to be organ, eye and tissue donors,” said Sierra View Chief Executive Officer Donna Hefner. “The campaign, which has helped to register nearly 400,000 people to state registries, aims to add more donor designations by May 2017 with the help of our hospital and community.” Continue reading
