Their View: Celebrate Donate Life Month and become a donor today

Working at SwedishAmerican Hospital has brought many opportunities to provide care to remarkable patients and families. SwedishAmerican not only helps patients within its walls but also out in the community.

We have had the privilege to reach out to the community further by working with the Organ Donation Committee. These past few years have brought many positive changes to our hospital and for our patients. SwedishAmerican merged with UW Health in 2015, creating an even stronger partnership with UW Health’s Organ and Tissue Donation team, whom we have worked alongside for many years.

Every nurse has his or her niche or passion that drives them to do what they do. Nursing is a calling, and that is partly what makes our profession unique. Our passion is organ donation. Our committee members participate in many awareness events and receive related ongoing education. We partner with actual donor family members to help ensure we provide the most supportive, professional and compassionate care to patients and families in their unique donor situations.

They provide us crucial feedback in regards to our conversations and interactions during their time with us at the hospital. We also mobilize hospital staff and community members to join us every year at the Red Shoe Run. This race event helps raise funds for donation awareness and provides valuable information to the public regarding donation. Continue reading
