Legacy lives on: Norton Shores officer killed in crash an organ donor

NORTON SHORES, MICH. - The Norton Shores Police Department is in mourning after a 10-year veteran was killed in an early morning crash.

Officer Jon Ginka, 34, was heading south on Henry Street near Ross Road when his car left the road and hit a tree, Michigan State Police Lt. Chris McIntire said. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, Ginka was severely injured and taken to Hackey Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Ginka leaves behind a wife and two children.

"Jonathan loved serving this community," Norton Shores Police Chief Jon Gail said. "He continues to serve today by donating his organs to those who need them.
