Only one-third of residents are organ, tissue donors

Just over one-third of Lincoln County residents are registered organ and tissue donors, and Tennessee Donor Services is working to increase that number.

Donate Life Month, celebrated each April, highlights the need for more residents to register for organ and tissue donation.

While more than 95 percent of people in the state say they support organ and tissue donation, only 37 percent are registered as donors in Tennessee. That number in Lincoln County is 36 percent.

Some 3,000 individuals are on the waiting list in Tennessee, nine of those Lincoln County residents. Last year, in 2016, five local residents received transplants. Across the state last year, 334 Tennesseans gave the gift of life, saving 908 lives. Continue reading
