Cairns girl’s special gift of life to two other people

Organ waiting list ‘shouldn’t take that long’
A FAMILY trying to cope with the tragic death of a five-year-old girl has reignited calls for Australia to have an opt-out organ donor register.

The week before Christmas last year, Harper Lillie drowned in a backyard pool in Whitfield, despite being a competent swimmer from a very early age.

She was rushed to Cairns Hospital, then airlifted the following day to Townsville Hospital, where she remained on life support in the paediatric intensive care unit.

Her parents, Richard and Lisa, made the heartbreaking decision to remove her life support on December 23.

“She was a bright and happy child who loved to craft and was always drawing pictures or writing letters,” Mrs Lillie said. Continue reading
