Family of Heart Donor Watches Recipient Graduate from Kamiakin High School

KENNEWICK, Wash. – One Colorado family's decision to donate their daughter's heart gave the gift of life to a Kennewick boy. This made for a miracle moment Saturday as both families watched the teen receive his high school diploma.

"Today is such a milestone moment, and we can say, wow, we're at graduation," said Stacy Dain, the mother of the organ donor.

Eighteen years ago, after suffering a birthing mishap, Dain made the decision to donate her daughter's heart.

"To give someone life, that is the greatest, greatest gift you can absolutely give somebody," she said.

Her daughter's heart was a perfect match for a Kennewick family's struggling son Samuel, without the transplant, his mother Becky Marty said he didn't have a chance at life.

"We didn't know if he was going to make it to his first 5 years of life,” she said. “And here he is, crossing the stage to get his high school diploma." Continue reading
