Sunnyvale’s Josh Levin returns to ‘American Ninja Warrior’

Levin’s participation in the television franchise has afforded him the opportunity to encourage people to become organ donors and explain the need for organ transplants.

Fremont High School alumnus Josh Levin is climbing higher and higher in grueling athletic competitions with appearances on three different “American Ninja Warrior” programs, two of which are set to air in the coming days.

Levin, 22, will appear in the show’s ninth season, which begins airing Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC. The Sunnyvale native is hoping to snare major prizes and possibly $1 million.

This is his second stint on the show after his debut last season. Although no one was able to conquer all four phases of the “American Ninja Warrior” obstacle course last season and claim the $1 million, Levin finished third overall in his rookie outing, coming up short on the second stage course in the Las Vegas finals.

Climbing has been a major part of Levin’s life. He graduated in 2012 and founded Fremont’s Climbing Appreciation Club. Soon after, at age 20, he competed in rock climbing at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, and he aspires to compete for gold in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the new climbing event.

On Sunday he was on a special three-hour episode called “USA vs. the World,” which pitted top American competitors against athletes from South America and Europe.
