When a son can save his mother, that’s a happy Father’s Day

A real father gives life — not just to his own children but to his whole family.

J.P. Hervis knows this.

That’s why, last fall, as he and his wife Terri nervously tended to their premature twin sons, he made a decision to give the gift of life to his mother — his kidney.

“No one can look at their kids, and talk about the importance of family, and not do this,” says Hervis, of Boca Raton, who donated that essential organ to mother Olga, who was in a rapid decline from Stage 4 kidney failure.

An afternoon with J.P., a well-known public relations professional and owner of Insider Media Management, and Olga, 71, a Miami family therapist, is like a live-action family sitcom, but with better jokes.

J.P. says, deadpanned, that if his mother ever gives him grief for missing giving her a Christmas gift, “I’m gonna pat my side and say ‘You know what else is missing? My kidney!’” Continue reading
