Organ transplant activist pens book to keep charity alive as he battles cancer

Organ transplant activist George Marcello is writing an autobiographic book in the hopes of keeping his donation charity alive as he battles cancer.

“I’m betting my life on this book to save our charity, Step By Step, from dying,” Marcello said.

Since 2014, Marcello has been fighting cancer and his organ donation work has had to take a back seat.

“I can’t go on the road anymore, across Canada and around the world. It’s had, because for the past 20 years I have had always had something going on to promote donation,” he said.

It all started in 1995, when Marcello received a life-saving liver donation.

In 1997, he created Step By Step to promote the importance of organ donations by walking from Toronto to Ottawa.

It was the first of many walks and tours in Canada and around the world. Continue reading
