Ashland event helps to promote organ donation

ASHLAND, Ky. - The Boyd County Circuit Clerk's Office and the Ashland Police Department teamed up again to promote the need for organ donation. Together with representatives from Donate Life, Trust for Life and Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates, a group gathered at noon Monday at the City of Ashland's Riverfront Park to advocate for and answer questions about organ donation.

Organ donation advocate and NASCAR driver Joey Gase visited the city again to share his story in hopes of encouraging others. Gase has said when his mom, Mary, died in April 2011, he made the decision to donate her organs, helping a number of individuals in the process.

An Ashland police car supporting Donate Life was unveiled Monday, and the Boyd Circuit Clerk's Office joined the police department to pay tribute to fallen police officers who gave the gift of life through organ donation. Continue reading
