On 10th anniversary of Donate Life Day, recipients and donors honored in Phoenix

Hundreds of people gathered on the Arizona State Capitol lawn on Thursday to remember those who gave the gift of life. And it's all a part of Donate Life Day.

This is the tenth year in a row Donate Life Arizona has put this event on. At the event, both donors and recipients are honored and recognized.

One of those heroes who gave the gift of life was Brett Wisner.

"Letters from the recipients, telling us how grateful they are for this gift," said Patty Wisner, the mother of Brett. "Both of his kidneys, his heart, his liver, the small intestine, and both of his corneas."

The day after Thanksgiving of 2016, Brett died after falling while mountain biking. He was just 30 years old.

"The neurologist said he wasn't expected to survive. So we got to the hospital in just enough time to hold his hand and kiss him and tell him how much we loved him," Wisner said.

His mom made the decision to donate his organs. Continue reading
