Harrisburg firefighter honored for lives saved after death

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Mount Pleasant Fire Company is in the heart of Allison Hill. Inside is the locker of the late Lt. Dennis Devoe.

DeVoe, a 21-year veteran of the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire, was headed to a house fire in March 2017 when his vehicle was struck at the intersection of 14th and Walnut streets. The other driver was arrested for DUI and other charges.

DeVoe saved lives as a firefighter and continues to have an impact. The organs donated after his death saved the lives of five people and his tissue was used in as many as 100 surgical operations.

On Friday, International Firefighters' Day, the Gift of Life Donor Program presented the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire with a plaque honoring Devoe. Continue reading
