Bay Medical Center honors organ donors and recipients


PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - April is Organ Donation Awareness Month. Wednesday morning, Bay Medical Sacred Heart hosted a special ceremony in its healing garden to honor organ donors and recipients.

In addition to speakers, the ceremony also featured prayers and refreshments. Staff at Bay Medical Center also planted a maple tree in honor of those who have donated their organs, one of whom, was Madison Hair.

Madison was 19 years old when she died in a car accident in June 2012. Madison's parents, Jody and Joe Hair, are science teachers at Mosley High School. They're continuing their quest to educate more people about the importance of becoming a donor and talking about that option with your family.

"It makes people aware that you need to sign up to be an organ donor, and it makes people kind of think about it and talk to loved ones" Jody Hair, Madison's mom, said. "That's the key, I think, to let your wishes be known."

Madison's parents say she was going to school at Gulf Coast State College to become a teacher to continue her lifelong dream of helping people. Continue reading
