Dr. Kevin Most: April Is Organ Donation Month

The always informative Dr. Kevin Most joins The Steve Cochran Show to discuss organ donation month and some of the myths surrounding it. Plus, don’t let allergy season get the best of you!

April, we think of Spring, Taxes and the Masters. We should be thinking about the impact we can make on others by signing up to be an organ donor.

April is organ donor awareness month. This is a great opportunity to get the word out on this very important topic. Each state has it’s own registry, as WGN is heard in many states, we want to make it easy for all of you to sign up. If you go to organ donor.gov there is a link in the lower right hand corner that will take you to your state specific site. Let’s be clear that nothing is done with this information until it may be needed at the time of death. All who sign up should let their family or loved ones know that you are signed up and wish to donate. This does a couple of things, one it lets family know what your wishes are but more importantly it reminds others to sign up.

Why is that important, well lets just share some numbers. Currently there are 125,000 people waiting for an organ. Although we do close to 100 transplants a day in this country, 22 people die everyday waiting for a life saving organ. Each organ donor can save up to 8 lives or can enhance the lives of 50 people.  Continue reading
