Brasilia, Jun 6 (EFE).- Brazil interim President Michel Temer on Monday ordered that at least one Brazilian air force aircraft always be available to help transport organs destined for transplants.

To our ... sorrow, we verified that there were no FAB (air force) planes to transport that material," said Temer, alluding to press stories saying that between 2013 and 2015, due to the lack of state aircraft, 153 organs could not be shipped in a timely way to patients in need of transplants.

According to the information published by the daily O Globo, the FAB could not transport the organs claiming a lack of available aircraft while during the same period 716 flights were made for officials, lawmakers and judges using FAB planes.

Temer said his decision will be contained in a decree that will be published on Tuesday ordering that the air force "maintain one airplane permanently on the ground and ready for any call to transport organs or to transport a patient to wherever the organ or tissue may be." Continue reading
