Family of West Belfast dad who died while waiting on transplant urges people to talk about organ donation
The heartbroken family of a young West Belfast dad who died while waiting on a double lung transplant has urged everyone to talk to their loved ones about organ donation.
Ciaran Murphy was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth and after many years of deteriorating health, he was told in 2006 he would need a double lung transplant.
After spending just over three years on the waiting list, the dad-of-one had a successful double lung transplant in May 2009.
His wife Catriona explained: "For the next four years Ciaran lived the life he dreamed of, he was able to do things that previously CF had prevented him doing like getting a full time job, going back to university to complete his Irish degree and more or less a year to the day of his transplant he completed the final leg of Belfast City Marathon.
